Duration: 4 Day Minibreak
Llangollen is a truly amazing town, encapsulating the best North
Wales has to offer in a small area. With more sun than Cornwall
and less rain than the Lake District, it is no wonder that this
gateway to North Wales should be so popular with sightseers and
walkers.
ITINERARY:
Friday: An early start today. Stops will be made on the way for
refreshments etc before arriving at our Hotel for dinner, and
entertainment by the Llangollen Male Voice Choir.
Saturday: After breakfast, it’s onto the coach for our
day out, calling at Betws-y-Coed - North Wales’ most popular
inland resort. This wonderful setting is surrounded by dense woodland
and magnificent mountain country, and has a main street with numerous
inns and shops. We then continue onto the lovely village of Portmeirion.
This unique village is set on its own private peninsula on the
southern shores of Snowdonia. Portmeirion is made up of about
50 buildings, most of which are used as hotels, and is surrounded
by 70 acres of sub-tropical woodlands gardens. The filming of
“The Prisoner” was set here in 1966-67. Back at the
hotel, after dinner, we will be entertained by a live band.
Sunday: Today we take a cruise on a narrow boat to enjoy the
beautiful scenery of the Vale of Llangollen. The 2 hour trip includes
a one-way crossing of the world famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct,
the country’s tallest navigable aqueduct, towering 126ft
above the River Dee.
Monday: We leave the Hotel and make our way to the Llangollen
Railway, for a trip that travels seven and a half miles along
the banks of the River Dee, through some of the most beautiful
scenery in the UK. We continue home calling at Bridgnorth on the
way. Bridgnorth is a market town founded in the 11th century,
and is unique because it has a High Town perched on a sandstone
cliff overlooking the Severn and Low Town. We estimate to arrive
home mid evening.
